November 28, 2025: Fourth Friday Of
November (The Day After Thanksgiving Day): National Maize Day: --
Rich in vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants, this multi-colored gift
of nature is worth all that and even more! Maize is so beneficial
that it has a day carved out every year just to celebrate it.
Corrine Lightweaver started the holiday, and we've found it
beneficial to observe it. Did you know yellow isn't the only Maize
color? Its other rare colors are white, pink, red, blue, and
black. Some are spotted, or striped, or multicolored. In 2004,
artist Corinne Lightweaver unintentionally launched the holiday as
a small research experiment with her family to observe
Thanksgiving Day from the standpoint of the indigenous people.
Maize ('Zea mays') can be traced back to 1500 B.C. in southern
Mexico. Early Mexican farmers domesticated a wild grass called
'teosinte' by picking the best and biggest kernels, and
ultimately, the famous crop we recognize today as maize was
established. The domesticated maize circulated fast throughout
Mexico because it is rich in nutrients, easy to grow, store,
carry, prepare, and eat. It went down the coast to Peru and
beyond, moving across the North until it eventually reached the
Native Americans. Today, maize is global and is a major part of
our diet. 297,624,053.95 imperial tons are produced yearly in the
U.S. alone. Maize has become a staple food in many parts of the
world, produced more than rice or wheat. In addition to being
eaten directly by humans, maize is used as feed for animals and
made into cornstarch and corn syrup products. Sugar-rich varieties
called sweet corn are grown for human consumption as kernels,
while field varieties are typically used for animal feed and
corn-based human food. Maize grows as tall as 23 feet and as short
as eight feet, and the beloved sweet corn is usually the shorter
kind. Maize is rich in vitamin C; the antioxidant helps protect
your cells from damage and ward off cancer and heart diseases.
Yellow corn is rich in carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which
protect against lens damage that causes cataracts, making it great
for the eyes. The six types of maize or corn are sweet corn, dent
corn, pod corn, flour corn, flint corn, and popcorn. On Sale @ 15%

November 28, 2025: Fourth Friday Of
November (The Day After Thanksgiving Day): National Native
American Heritage Day: -- American Indians are accorded special
honor on this day, and their rich cultures, accomplishments,
contributions, and heritage are celebrated. The history of America
begins with Native Americans, and the bald eagle on the U.S.
shield is an Iroquois symbol. On this day, we can enjoy displays
of their cultural fashion and unique recipes and speak out against
the grave injustices they have experienced. Dr. Arthur C. Parker
of the Seneca nation first protested for National Native American
Heritage Day between 1912 and 1915. At first, he was fighting for
an "American Indian Day" to be recognized within the Boy
Scouts of America. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed
into law the legislation introduced by Congressman Joe Baca, to
designate the day after Thanksgiving as American Indian Heritage
Day. The law was established on November 28 as a day to pay
respects to the Native Americans for their numerous contributions
to the United States. The American Indian Heritage Day was
supported by the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) and 184
federally recognized tribes. The Native American Heritage Day
encourages Americans of all backgrounds to appreciate the
indigenous cultures appropriately, with ceremonies and activities.
Schools are also encouraged to enhance their students' awareness
of Native Americans by providing classroom activities focused on
their history, contributions, and achievements. The United States
House of Representatives initially passed the Native American
Heritage Day Act of 2009, with technical adjustments made by a
collective consent in the United States Senate. The House of
Representatives unanimously voted to pass the legislation again,
including the Senate's adjustments. The legislation was then
signed into public law by President Barack Obama on October 30,
2009. Native American Heritage Day and Month is a huge platform
for Indigenous people to educate society about their communities.
On this day, more than ever, they lead the discourse on culture,
celebrate their heritage by donning traditional footwear ("rocking
the moccasin"), and shed some light on the diverse tribal
communities. On Sale @ 15% Off Discount Till Midnight PT!

November 28, 2025: : Fourth Friday Of
November (The Day After Thanksgiving Day): You're Welcomegiving
Day: -- A day created to remind people to say "you're
welcome" as a response to the appreciation that people showed
during Thanksgiving. When people say "thank you," the
response is usually "you're welcome." After
Thanksgiving, it's time to celebrate You're Welcomegiving Day. The
history of You're Welcomegiving Day is cloaked in controversy;
some say the holiday was created by a man called Richard Ankli as
a way to add an extra day to the Thanksgiving weekend. However,
others speculate that the holiday originated from a blog post in
2002. Whatever the case, we know how important it is to properly
show and accept appreciation, which is the purpose of You're
Welcomegiving Day! The phrase "you're welcome" was used
as a response to the phrase "thank you" as far back as
1603 and is found in Shakespeare's play, "Othello." The
phrase stems from the old English word 'wilcuma,' which is a
combination of the words 'guest' and 'pleasure.' Though it is also
used to graciously welcome a guest, it has become a commonplace
response to thanks. However, it is believed by some that the
phrase carries some underlying smugness or self-appreciation. It
has also become a rote response that most people may recite
without even realizing it. On social media, a person might create
a post with some meaningful or entertaining information and
caption it with the phrase "you're welcome,"
acknowledging that people will appreciate it. This is also done
outside of social media, as a person might not even wait for a
show of appreciation after a kind act before spouting the phrase
"you're welcome." This is not to say that "you're
welcome" isn't a much-needed part of social interaction.
However, whether one uses those exact words or replaces them with
others, the point remains that we are to accept appreciation with
the same humility and grace as we received. The privilege of being
a blessing is indeed one to be grateful for. On Sale @ 15% Off

November 28, 2025: Fourth Friday Of
November (The Day After Thanksgiving Day): Black Friday: -- A day
for you to do your shopping at EarthStation1 MediaOutlet! Black
Friday will have cash registers ringing this year. It's the day of
the year when retailers finally start generating profit, thus
going from "being in the red" to "being in the
black." Get out your pocketbook and prepare to shell out some
cash, because the Friday after Thanksgiving is the biggest
shopping day of the year! First, there's Thanksgiving - a day to
be grateful for all life's blessings. The next day, Black Friday,
encourages you to give way to your greed by spending as much money
as possible. Welcome to the official start of the holiday season!
But the story of Black Friday is full of "official" and
unofficial versions of its origins, starting with the name. Black
Friday originally referred to September 24,1869 when a scheme to
manipulate America's gold markets backfired resulting in numerous
bankruptcies across the country. Even more troubling is the
unsubstantiated story that southern slave owners allegedly got a
"good deal" if they bought slaves on the Friday after
Thanksgiving - "Black Friday," indeed! But, the story
that's most well-known about Black Friday is that retailers marked
the day when filled coffers from holiday shoppers helped
businesses go from being "in the red" to "in the
black." Although popular, this story is also not quite
accurate. So, what is the actual story of Black Friday? We have to
go to Philadelphia for that. Philadelphia cops complained about
"Black Friday" when they were stuck working off days and
overtime the day after Thanksgiving. Packed downtown streets with
hordes of shoppers, tourists, and fans in town for the next day's
Army-Navy game, meant that Black Friday was a haven for
shoplifters as well as a crowd-controlling nightmare for the
police. Unfortunately, the idea that Black Friday was also a
retailers' headache did not entice Philly's shoppers. By 1961,
Philadelphia retailers decided "if you can't beat 'em, join
'em," turning a negative into a positive by way of
reinvention. In the 1980s, "Black Friday" became
synonymous as a day for big deals in national retail. Today, Black
Friday invites you to shop 'til you drop for the best bargains of
the year. On Sale @ 15% Off Discount Till Midnight PT!

November 28: Red Planet Day: -- Recognizes the planet which has captivated human observers for countless years, Mars. Right now, we know that Mars is red thanks to photographs beamed back to Earth from American rovers. For centuries, the naked human eye has been able to detect the reddish tinge of the solar system's fourth planet, glimmering in the night sky. Little did scientists know, the red on Mars' surface came from a preponderance of iron oxide, common rust. On Red Planet Day we celebrate our fascination with Mars, along with all the scientific advancements into understanding the dusty planet. Around 400 BC, the Babylonian's began keeping record of celestial events. They called Mars "Nergal," The King of Conflicts, ostensibly because of the association between the planet's color and the blood spilled during armed encounters with enemies. The ancient Greeks and Romans must have made the association as well, because in both their pantheons, Ares and Mars, respectively, were known as the gods of war. As time went on and it became a possibility that man might one day travel among the stars, authors and filmmakers availed themselves of the sense of wonder surrounding the Red Planet and created works of science fiction and just plain fancy, imagining walking on that rusty ground. One big question was whether Mars held good old fashioned water, the source of any life on a planet. Flyby missions detected polar ice caps. Ancient "canals" were shown to be an optical illusion, but that didn't stop many believers from presuming that there had previously been civilizations on the fourth planet from the sun.It still stands to reason that imaginations have blossomed around the notion of life on Mars, from the classic novel "Stranger In a Strange Land" by 1950's author Robert Heinlein, to 2015's Ridley Scott film starring Matt Damon, "The Martian." During this century, orbiter missions and rover missions sent back more and more detailed information about Mars, until NASA and its international counterparts began to plan manned missions to Mars. Now, National Red Planet Day commemorates the launch of the Mariner 4 spacecraft on November 28, 1964. Mariner 4 performed the first successful flyby of the planet Mars returning the first pictures of the Martian surface. observations of Mars and to transmit these observations to Earth.
It captured the first images of another planet ever returned from
deep space; their depiction of a cratered, seemingly dead world,
largely changed the scientific community's view of life on Mars.
Other mission objectives were to perform field and particle

to provide experience in and knowledge of the engineering
capabilities for interplanetary flights of long duration. On
December 21, 1967 communications with Mariner 4 were terminated.

November 28, 1967: Great Discoveries:
Space: Outer Space: Astronomy: Radio Astronomy: Stellar Phenomena:
Pulsars: PSR B1919+21 (PSR J1921+2153): -- The first pulsar, PSR
B1919+21, also known as PSR J1921+2153, in the constellation of
Vulpecula (Latin: "Little Fox", a faint constellation in
the northern sky) is discovered by the two astronomers Jocelyn
Bell Burnell and Antony Hewish. A pulsar (pulsating star, so named
on the naming model of "quasar" ["quasi-stellar
{star-like} radio source]) is a highly magnetized rotating neutron
star that emits beams of electromagnetic radiation out of its
magnetic poles. This radiation can be observed only when a beam of
emission is pointing toward Earth (similar to the way a lighthouse
can be seen only when the light is pointed in the direction of an
observer), and is responsible for the pulsed appearance of
emission. Neutron stars are very dense and have short, regular
rotational periods. This produces a very precise interval between
pulses that ranges from milliseconds to seconds for an individual
pulsar. Pulsars' highly regular pulses make them very useful tools
for astronomers. For example, observations of a pulsar in a binary
neutron star system were used to indirectly confirm the existence
of gravitational radiation. The first extrasolar planets were
discovered in 1992 around a pulsar, specifically PSR B1257+12. In
1983, certain types of pulsars were detected that, at that time,
exceeded the accuracy of atomic clocks in keeping time. PSR
B1919+21 is a pulsar with a period of 1.3373 seconds and a pulse
width of 0.04 seconds. The power and regularity of the signals
were briefly thought to resemble an extraterrestrial beacon,
leading the source to be nicknamed LGM-1 (for "little green
men"). The original designation of this pulsar was CP 1919,
which stands for Cambridge Pulsar at RA 19h 19m. On Sale @ 15% Off

world's first operational intercontinental ballistic missile
(ICBM), developed by the United States and the first member of the
Atlas rocket family (the earlier Soviet R-7 Semyorka ICBM was the
world's first intercontinental ballistic missile with 28 launches
between 1957 and 1961, but was never deployed operationally). The
SM-65 Atlas was built for the U.S. Air Force by the Convair
Division of General Dynamics at an assembly plant located in
Kearny Mesa, San Diego. Atlas became operational in October 1959,
but was soon made obsolete as an ICBM by new development, and was
retired from this role by 1965. The SM-65 Atlas required long
preparation times which made it unsuitable for a quick launch
ICBM. However, this was not a requirement for planned space
launches, and so Atlas-derived launch vehicles served a long
history as space launchers. Even before its ICBM use ended in
1965, Atlas had placed four Project Mercury astronauts in orbit
and was becoming the foundation for a family of successful space
launch vehicles, most notably Atlas Agena and Atlas Centaur. The
Atlas-Centaur was evolved into the Atlas II, various models of
which were launched 63 times between 1991 and 2004. Mergers led to
the acquisition of the Atlas Centaur line by the United Launch
Alliance. There were only six launches of the succeeding Atlas
III, all between 2000 and 2005. Today ULA supports the larger
Atlas V, which combines the Centaur upper stage with a new
booster, with launches planned into the 2020s.. Until 2001, many
retired Atlas ICBMs were refurbished and combined with upper
stages to launch satellites. More than 300 Atlas launches have
been conducted from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida
and 285 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. On Sale @

(The Age Of Exploration): Circumnavigations: The Magellan
Expedition (Armada De Molucca, Armada De Molucas, [Spanish: "The

explorer and navigator Ferdinand Magellan his Armada De Molucas,
who sailed in the service of Spanish King Charles V, become the
first Europeans to navigate the strait separating mainland South
America to the north and Tierra del Fuego to the south, which now
bears Magellan's name as The Strait of Magellan or The Straits of
Magellan, in what later became the first voyage of global
circumnavigation. On March 22, 1518, the expedition was organized
in Valladolid, naming Magellan captain general of the fleet and
governor of all the lands discovered. On September 20, 1519,
Magellan's expeditionary fleet of five ships set sail from
Sanlucar de Barrameda in southern Spain with about 270 men on an
expedition to circumnavigate the globe. The five ships included La
Trinidad (110 tons, 55 crew members), under the command of
Magellan; La San Antonio (120 tons, 60 crew members) under the
command of Juan de Cartagena; La Concepcion (90 tons, 45 crew
members) under the command of Gaspar de Quezada (Juan Sebastian
Elcano served as boatswain); La Victoria (85 tons, 42 crew
members) under the command of Luis de Mendoza; and La Santiago (75
tons, 32 crew members), under command of Juan Rodriguez Serrano
(Joao Rodrigues Serrao). Before the passage of the strait (and
after the mutiny in Puerto San Julian), Alvaro de Mesquita became
captain of the San Antonio, and Duarte Barbosa of the Victoria.
Later, Serrao became captain of the Concepcion (the Santiago, sent
on a mission to find the passage, was caught in a storm and
wrecked). San Antonio, charged to explore Magdalen Sound, failed
to return to the fleet, instead sailing back to Spain under
Estevao Gomes, who imprisoned the captain Mesquita. Magellan's
ships entered the strait on November 1, 1520, All Saints' Day. It
was initially called Estrecho de Todos los Santos ("Strait of
All Saints"). Magellan's chronicler, Antonio Pigafetta,
called it the Patagonian Strait, and others Victoria Strait,
commemorating the first ship that entered. Within seven years, it
was being called Estrecho de Magallanes in honor of Magellan. The
Spanish Empire and the Captaincy General of Chile used it as the
southern boundary of their territory. On All Saints' Day, Magellan
planted a flag and claimed the land on behalf of the King Of
Spain. There is no historical evidence of the knowledge of the
strait prior to the Spanish expedition of Ferdinand Magellan . In
1563, Antonio Galvao reported that the position of the strait was
previously mentioned in old charts as Dragon's Tail (Draco Cola):
"[Peter, Duke of Coimbra] brought a map which had all the
circuit of the world described. The Strait of Magellan was called
the Dragon's Tail; and there were also the Cape of Good Hope and
the coast of Africa. ... Francisco de Sousa Tavares told me that
in the year 1528, the Infant D. Fernando showed him a map which
had been found in the Cartorio of Alcobaca, which had been made
more than 120 years before, which contained all the navigation of
India with the Cape of Good Hope." As this would suggest that
the strait was mentioned in maps before the Americas were
officially discovered by Europeans, the claim is questionable. On

November 28, 1895: The Automobile: The
History Of The Automobile: Auto Races: Auto Races Tn The United
States: The Chicago Times-Herald Race: -- The first American
automobile race takes place on Thanksgiving Day over the 54 miles
from Chicago's Jackson Park to Evanston, Illinois. Sponsored by
the Chicago Times-Herald, this "Motocycle" race was held
among six motorized vehicles: four cars (three Benz cars and Frank
Duryea's motorized wagon) and two "two-wheeled automobiles"
(now called motorcycles). The race was won by Frank Duryea's
Motorized Wagon, completing the race after 7 hours and 53 minutes
of running time, 10 hours and 23 minutes total time, having
traveled an average of 7 mph (11 km/h). The race created
considerable publicity for the "motocycle", which had
been introduced in the United States only two years earlier. On
July 10, 1895, the Chicago Times-Herald announced a race to be
held in the city, prizes totaling 5K USD (approximately 153.7K in
2019). The promotion was an attempt to foster growth of the young
auto industry in the United States and to boost newspaper sales.
The first automobiles in the nation were produced only two years
earlier, and they were so new at the time that the paper's editors
could not easily agree upon a name for them. After considerable
wrangling, the editors decided to call it a "Moto Cycle
race", and first used the term in a July 15 article. The
original course of the race was to run from Chicago north to
Milwaukee, but the roads were found to be too poor for early cars
to easily traverse. The route was changed to be only 54 miles (87
km) from Chicago to Evanston and back. The finish line was near
what is now the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (what had
been the Palace of Fine Arts at the 1893 Columbian Exposition).
The race was intended to be held on November 2, but few cars had
shown up, and the race was rescheduled. Eighty-three cars were
initially entered into the race, but only six arrived for the
actual competition. Many of the entrants did not have their cars
completed on time, and several were unable to make the journey.
Elwood Haynes' car, which was a favorite to win the race, was
damaged en route and unable to compete. Both Haynes and the driver
of a Benz car were stopped by police while driving their cars into
the city. They were forced to requisition horses to pull the cars
because, as the police informed them, they had no right to drive
their vehicles on the city streets. The situation caused the race
to again be postponed while the Chicago Times-Herald editors
convinced the city leaders to pass an ordinance to confirm the
right of these vehicles to travel on city streets. Once the
ordinance passed, the race was held on November 28, Thanksgiving
Day. The day was snowy and 38dg F (4dc C), the roads muddy, with
snow drifts in places. The first car to arrive at the starting
line was a German-made car by inventor Karl Benz. The two other
vehicles that took part were two-wheeled automobiles; these
"motorcycles" lacked the power to climb one of the
course's grades. Another entrant was electric-powered, and its
battery died because of the cold weather before getting very far.
Just after starting, one Benz struck a horse, and was forced to
leave the race. On the return trip from Evanston the Duryea began
to take the lead. The Duryea car finished the race first. The Benz
entered by Oscar B. Mueller crossed the finish line an hour and a
half later. From point 31 of the course to the finish Mueller's
car was driven by Charles Brady King because Mueller went
unconscious from exposure. King was originally an umpire to the
race and of this motocycle. None of the other vehicles finished.
The race was the first known automobile race in the United States.
Newspapers across the country carried stories about the race and
many predicted the coming demise of horse-borne transportation,
citing the cars' ability to travel even in poor weather. The
success of the race sped up the rate of automobile development by
at least five years in the United States due to the publicity of
the event. The commercial production of American automobiles began
only a year later. The Smithsonian Institution states regarding
the winning Duryea car that "This car was unfortunately
destroyed through a workman's misunderstanding many years ago."
The second-place car of Hieronymus Mueller is on display in the
Mueller Museum in Decatur, Illinois. In addition to the enormous
amount of publicity the race generated, several other automotive
developments were related to this race. 1) Motocycle. The early
term for the automobile, "motocycle", was born out of a
pre-race contest sponsored by the Chicago Times-Herald newspaper
to replace the term "horseless carriage" with something
better. The term was never very popular, and it has largely fallen
into disuse. The Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company used this
term consistently to describe its motorcycles from their earliest
days until 1953; 2) First automotive club. Charles King, one of
the drivers that was to have taken part in the November 2, 1895,
contest, sent out letters on October 8, 1895, proposing an
automobile club be formed. This led to the creation of the
American Motor League on November 1, 1895, in Chicago on the eve
of what became the exhibition run between Mueller and Duryea
motocycles. Charles Duryea was elected president on November 29,
1895, at the second meeting; 3) First U.S. automotive trade
publication. Edward E. Goff in Chicago, almost certainly inspired
by the Chicago Times-Herald Race, began publishing the first
English language automobile magazine Motocycle in October 1895.
This was one month prior to the well known publication Horseless
Age which claimed to be the first such publication; and 4) Selden
patent. The Morris & Salom Electrobat was the beginnings of
the Electric Vehicle Company of Philadelphia. This firm, although
no longer producing automobiles by 1899, acquired the legal rights
to the Selden patent, a smaller, lighter version of the mammoth
internal combustion engine invented by George Brayton, and began
the process of trying to collect licensing fees from all U.S.
automobile manufacturers. On Sale @ 15% Off Discount Till Midnight

November 28, 1757: #BOTD: #HBD! William
Blake, English poet, printmaker, painter and Swedenborgian (d.
August 12, 1827) is #born in London, England. Largely unrecognised
during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in
the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. His
visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim
him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever
produced". Although Blake was considered mad by
contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, he is held in high
regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and
for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work.
Although he lived in London his entire life, except for three
years spent in Felpham,[5] he produced a diverse and symbolically
rich oeuvre, which embraced the imagination as "the body of
God" or "human existence itself". His paintings and
poetry have been characterised as part of the Romantic movement
and as "Pre-Romantic". Reverent of the Bible but hostile
to the Church of England (indeed, to almost all forms of organised
religion), Blake was influenced by the ideals and ambitions of the
French and American Revolutions. Though later he rejected many of
these political beliefs, he maintained an amiable relationship
with the political activist Thomas Paine; he was also influenced
by thinkers such as Emanuel Swedenborg. Despite these known
influences, the singularity of Blake's work makes him difficult to
classify. The 19th-century scholar William Rossetti characterised
him as a "glorious luminary", "a man not
forestalled by predecessors, nor to be classed with
contemporaries, nor to be replaced by known or readily surmisable
successors". William Blake dies at Fountain Court off The
Strand, property demolished in the 1880s when the Savoy Hotel was
built, Charing Cross, London, England, aged 69. On the day of his
death, Blake worked relentlessly on his Dante series. He then
ceased working and turned to his wife, who was in tears by his
bedside. He said to her "Stay Kate! Keep just as you are - I
will draw your portrait - for you have ever been an angel to me."
Having completed this portrait (now lost), Blake laid down his
tools and began to sing hymns and verses. At six that evening,
after promising his wife that he would be with her always, Blake
died. Gilchrist reports that a female lodger in the house, present
at his expiration, said, "I have been at the death, not of a
man, but of a blessed angel." George Richmond gives the
following account of Blake's death in a letter to Samuel Palmer:
"He died ... in a most glorious manner. He said He was going
to that Country he had all His life wished to see & expressed
Himself Happy, hoping for Salvation through Jesus Christ - Just
before he died His Countenance became fair. His eyes Brighten'd
and he burst out Singing of the things he saw in Heaven."
Blake's body was buried in a plot shared with others, five days
after his death - on the eve of his 45th wedding anniversary - at
the Dissenter's burial ground in Bunhill Fields, in what is today
the London Borough of Islington. His parents' bodies were buried
in the same graveyard. Present at the ceremonies were Catherine,
Edward Calvert, George Richmond, Frederick Tatham and John
Linnell. Following Blake's death, Catherine moved into Tatham's
house as a housekeeper. She believed she was regularly visited by
Blake's spirit. She continued selling his illuminated works and
paintings, but entertained no business transaction without first
"consulting Mr. Blake". On the day of her death, in
October 1831, she was as calm and cheerful as her husband, and
called out to him "as if he were only in the next room, to
say she was coming to him, and it would not be long now". On
her death, longtime acquaintance Frederick Tatham took possession
of Blake's works and continued selling them. Tatham later joined
the fundamentalist Irvingite church and under the influence of
conservative members of that church burned manuscripts that he
deemed heretical. The exact number of destroyed manuscripts is
unknown, but shortly before his death Blake told a friend he had
written "twenty tragedies as long as Macbeth", none of
which survive. Another acquaintance, William Michael Rossetti,
also burned works by Blake that he considered lacking in quality,
and John Linnell erased sexual imagery from a number of Blake's
drawings. At the same time, some works not intended for
publication were preserved by friends, such as his notebook and An
Island in the Moon. Blake's grave is commemorated by two stones.
The first was a stone that reads "Near by lie the remains of
the poet-painter William Blake 1757-1827 and his wife Catherine
Sophia 1762-1831". The memorial stone is situated
approximately 20 metres (66 ft) away from the actual grave, which
was not marked until 191 years later. For years since 1965, the
exact location of William Blake's grave had been lost and
forgotten. The area had been damaged in the Second World War;
gravestones were removed and a garden was created. The memorial
stone, indicating that the burial sites are "nearby",
was listed as a Grade II listed structure in 2011. A Portuguese
couple, Carol and Luis Garrido, rediscovered the exact burial
location after 14 years of investigatory work, and the Blake
Society organised the second stone, a permanent memorial slab,
which was unveiled at a public ceremony at the site on August 12,
2018, the 191st anniversary of his death. The new stone is
inscribed "Here lies William Blake 1757-1827 Poet Artist
Prophet" above a verse from his poem Jerusalem. In 1957 a
memorial to Blake and his wife was erected in Westminster Abbey.
Another memorial lies in St James's Church, Piccadilly, where he
was baptised. The Blake Prize for Religious Art was established in
his honour in Australia in 1949. At the time of Blake's death, he
had sold fewer than 30 copies of Songs of Innocence and of
Experience. On Sale @ 15% Off Discount Till Midnight PT!

November 28, 1820: #BOTD: Friedrich
Engels, German socialist, philosopher, social scientist,
journalist and businessman, co-founder together with Karl Marx of
Marxism or Marxist Theory, a method of socioeconomic analysis that
uses an interpretation of historical development known as
dialectical materialism, also known as historical materialism, a
materialist theory to understand class relations and social
conflict, author of The Condition Of The Working Class in England
in 1845 based on personal observations and research in Manchester,
England, co-author of The Communist Manifesto along with Marx in
1848, author and co-author (primarily with Marx) of many other
works, who later supported Marx financially to do research and
write Das Kapital (German: Das Kapital. Kritik Der Politischen
Okonomie [Capital: A Critique Of Political Economy]), is the most
significant work by Karl Marx and the cornerstone of Marxian
economics, published in three volumes in 1867, 1885, and 1894, the
second and third volumes of which Engels edited after Marx's
death, organiser of Marx's notes on The Theories Of Surplus Value,
which he later published as the "fourth volume" of
Capital (d. August 5, 1895) is #born in Barmen, Wuppertal, ,
Kingdom Of Prussia (Germany), the son of a wealthy textile
manufacturer. Despite his bourgeois background, he became a
staunch critic of capitalism, influenced by his observations of
industrial working conditions in Manchester, England, as published
in The Condition Of The Working Class In England. He met Marx in
1844, after which they jointly authored works including The Holy
Family (1844), The German Ideology (written 1846), and The
Communist Manifesto (1848), and worked as political activists in
the Communist League and First International. Engels' own works,
including Anti-Duhring (1878), Socialism: Utopian And Scientific
(1880), Dialectics Of Nature (written 1872-1882), The Origin Of
The Family, Private Property And The State (1884), and Ludwig
Feuerbach And The End of Classical German Philosophy (1886), are
foundational to Marxist theory. Engels's interests included
poetry, fox hunting and hosting regular Sunday parties for
London's left-wing intelligentsia where, as one regular put it,
"no one left before two or three in the morning". His
stated personal motto was "take it easy" while "jollity"
was listed as his favourite virtue. Of Engels's personality and
appearance, Robert Heilbroner described him in The Worldly
Philosophers as "tall and rather elegant, he had the figure
of a man who liked to fence and to ride to hounds and who had once
swum the Weser River four times without a break" as well as
having been "gifted with a quick wit and facile mind"
and of a gay temperament, being able to "stutter in twenty
languages". He had a great enjoyment of wine and other
"bourgeois pleasures". Engels favoured forming romantic
relationships with women of the proletariat and found a long-term
partner in a working-class woman named Mary Burns, although they
never married. After her death, Engels was romantically involved
with her younger sister Lydia Burns. Historian and former Labour
MP Tristram Hunt, author of The Frock-Coated Communist: The
Revolutionary Life of Friedrich Engels, argues that Engels "almost
certainly was, in other words, the kind of man Stalin would have
had shot".[30] Hunt sums up the disconnect between Engels's
personality and the Soviet Union which later utilised his works,
stating "This great lover of the good life, passionate
advocate of individuality, and enthusiastic believer in
literature, culture, art and music as an open forum could never
have acceded to the Soviet Communism of the 20th century, all the
Stalinist claims of his paternity notwithstanding." As to the
religious persuasion attributable to Engels, Hunt writes "In
that sense the latent rationality of Christianity comes to
permeate the everyday experience of the modern world -- its values
are now variously incarnated in the family, civil society, and the
state. What Engels particularly embraced in all of this was an
idea of modern pantheism, or, rather, pandeism, a merging of
divinity with progressing humanity, a happy dialectical synthesis
that freed him from the fixed oppositions of the pietist ethos of
devout longing and estrangement. 'Through Strauss I have now
entered on the straight road to Hegelianism... The Hegelian idea
of God has already become mine, and thus I am joining the ranks of
the "modern pantheists"'". Engels was a polyglot
and was able to write and speak in numerous languages, including
Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Spanish, Polish, French,
English, German and the Milanese dialect. Friedrich Engels died at
41 Regent's Park Road, Primrose Hill, NW1, London, England of
throat cancer, aged 74. Following cremation at Woking Crematorium,
his ashes were scattered off Beachy Head, near Eastbourne, a chalk
headland in East Sussex, England, situated close to Eastbourne,
immediately east of the Seven Sisters, a series of white chalk sea
cliffs on the English Channel coast (similar to but not to be
confused with The White Cliffs Of Dover), as he had requested. He
left a considerable estate to Eduard Bernstein and Louise
Freyberger (wife of Ludwig Freyberger), valued for probate at
25,265 0s. 11d PS, equivalent to 3,686,193 PS in 2023. On Sale @

Playwright Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy Of The People is first
published (original Norwegian title: En folkefiende), an 1882 play
which followed Ibsen's previous play, Ghosts, which criticized the
hypocrisy of his society's moral code. That response included
accusations of both Ghosts and its author being "scandalous,"
"degenerate," and "immoral." In An Enemy of
the People, a man dares to expose an unpalatable truth publicly
and is punished for it. However, Ibsen took a somewhat skeptical
view of his protagonist, suggesting that he may have gone too far
in his zeal to tell the truth. Ibsen wrote to his publisher: "I
am still uncertain as to whether I should call [An Enemy of the

comedy, but it also is based on a serious idea." On Sale @

German Empire. He was a member of the Nazi Party's predecessor,
the German Workers' Party, and one of the earlies members of the
Nazi Party. He was a close friend and early ally of Adolf Hitler.
By 1934, the German Army feared the SA's influence and Hitler had
come to see Rohm as a potential rival, so he was executed during
the Night of the Long Knives, a purge that took place in Nazi
Germany from June 30 to July 2, 1934. Ernst Rohm died in his jail
cell in Munich, Munich-Upper Bavaria, Nazi Germany, aged 46 after
refusing to commit suicide in the aftermatch of The Night Of The
Long Knives, the purge ordered by Adolf Hitler, at the urging of
Hermann Goring and Heinrich Himmler, a series of political
extrajudicial executions intended to consolidate Hitler's power
and alleviate the concerns of the German military about Rohm and
his Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazis' paramilitary organization
known colloquially as "Brownshirts". Hitler was hesitant
in authorizing Rohm's execution, perhaps because of loyalty or
embarrassment about the execution of an important lieutenant; he
eventually did so, and agreed that Rohm should have the option of
suicide. SS-Brigadefuhrer Theodor Eicke (later Kommandant of the
Dachau concentration camp) and SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Michael
Lippert visited Rohm. Once inside Rohm's cell, they handed him a
Browning pistol loaded with a single cartridge and told him he had
ten minutes to kill himself or they would do it for him. Rohm
demurred, telling them, "If I am to be killed, let Adolf do
it himself." Having heard nothing in the allotted time, Eicke
and Lippert returned to Rohm's cell at 14:50 to find him standing,
with his bare chest puffed out in a gesture of defiance. Eicke and
Lippert then shot and killed Rohm. SA-Obergruppenfuhrer Viktor
Lutze, who had been spying on Rohm, was then named as the new
Stabschef SA. He is buried at the Westfriedhof Munchen in Moosach,

Premieres: The Grand Ole Opry: -- The Grand Ole Opry, the
longest-running radio broadcast in US history, begins broadcasting
in Nashville, Tennessee, founded by George D. Hay as the one-hour
radio show "WSM Barn Dance", with Uncle Jimmy Thompson
as the first performer. WSM radio (modern WSM (AM) radio, a
50,000-watt clear channel AM radio station) was itself founded
less than two months prior by the National Life and Accident
Insurance Company as a platform to sell the company's insurance
products, and first signed on October 5, 1925. George D. Hay, a
newspaper reporter from Memphis, was WSM's first program director
and host of The Grand Old Opry. The station is chiefly responsible
for popularization of country music throughout America as a result
of the show. On December 10, 1927, host George D. Hay, referred to
the programming as being "Grand Ole Opry", in contrast
to the grand opera program NBC network broadcast that preceded it.
Hay said "For the past hour we have been listening to music
largely from Grand Opera, but from now on we will present 'The
Grand Ole Opry", and the name stuck. The Grand Ole Opry is
now a weekly American country music stage concert in Nashville,
Tennessee currently owned and operated by Opry Entertainment (a
division of Ryman Hospitality Properties, Inc.). Dedicated to
honoring country music and its history, the Opry showcases a mix
of famous singers and contemporary chart-toppers performing
country, bluegrass, Americana, folk, and gospel music as well as
comedic performances and skits. It attracts hundreds of thousands
of visitors from around the world and millions of radio and
internet listeners. In the 1930s, the show began hiring
professionals and expanded to four hours. Broadcasting by then at
50,000 watts, WSM made the program a Saturday night musical
tradition in nearly 30 states. In 1939, it debuted nationally on
NBC Radio. The Opry moved to a permanent home, the Ryman
Auditorium, in 1943. As it developed in importance, so did the
city of Nashville, which became America's "country music
capital." The Grand Ole Opry holds such significance in
Nashville that it is included as a "home of" mention on
the welcome signs seen by motorists at the Metro
Nashville/Davidson County line. Membership in the Opry remains one
of country music's crowning achievements. Since 1974, the show has
been broadcast from the Grand Ole Opry House east of downtown
Nashville, with an annual three-month winter foray back to the
Ryman from 1999-2020. In addition to the radio programs,
performances have been sporadically televised over the years. The
Opry's television partner is currently Circle, a digital multicast
network which is partially-owned by Opry Entertainment and Gray
Television, and broadcasts portions of the live Saturday night
performance on an irregular basis. On Sale @ 15% Off Discount Till

1989 (The Fall Of Nations, The Autumn Of Nations, The Fall Of
Communism): The Eastern Bloc (The Communist Bloc, The Socialist
Bloc, The Soviet Bloc): The Velvet Revolution (Czech: Sametova
Revoluce) (The Gentle Revolution): -- In the face the eleventh day
of the twelve day Velvet Revolution sparked by the beating of
protesters, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia announces it
will give up its monopoly on political power; the following day,
forty-one years of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia came to an end
as the Czech parliament voted unanimously to repeal constitutional
clauses granting the Communist Party sole power. This brought a
wave of reform headed by playwright Vaclav Havel, who later became
president in the first free elections since World War II. The
Velvet Revolution began on November 17, 1989 when thousands of
student demonstrators marched through the streets of Prague
demanding an end to Communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Riot police
and army paratroopers then moved in to crush the revolt. This
sparks an uprising aimed at overthrowing the communist government
that ultimately succeeds on December 29. The Velvet Revolution
(Czech: sametova revoluce) or Gentle Revolution (Slovak: nezna
revolucia) was a non-violent transition of power in what was then
Czechoslovakia, occurring from November 17 to December 29, 1989.
Popular demonstrations against the one-party government of the
Communist Party of Czechoslovakia included students and older
dissidents. The result was the end of 41 years of one-party rule
in Czechoslovakia, and the subsequent dismantling of the command
economy and conversion to a parliamentary republic. On November
17, 1989, the semicentennial anniversary of International
Students' Day, riot police suppressed a student demonstration in
Prague. The event marked the 50th anniversary of a violently
suppressed demonstration against the Nazi storming of Prague
University in 1939 where 1,200 students were arrested and 9
killed. The 1989 event sparked a series of demonstrations from
November 17 to late December and turned into an anti-communist
demonstration. On November 20, the number of protesters assembled
in Prague grew from 200,000 the previous day to an estimated
500,000. The entire top leadership of the Communist Party,
including General Secretary Milos Jakes, resigned on November 24.
On November 27, a two-hour general strike involving all citizens
of Czechoslovakia was held. In response to the collapse of other
Warsaw Pact governments and the increasing street protests, the
Communist Party of Czechoslovakia announced on November 28 that it
would relinquish power and end the one-party state. Two days
later, the federal parliament formally deleted the sections of the
Constitution giving the Communist Party a monopoly of power.
Barbed wire and other obstructions were removed from the border
with West Germany and Austria in early December. On December 10,
President Gustav Husak appointed the first largely non-communist
government in Czechoslovakia since 1948, and resigned. Alexander
Dubcek was elected speaker of the federal parliament on December
28, and Vaclav Havel the President of Czechoslovakia on December
29, 1989. In June 1990, Czechoslovakia held its first democratic
elections since 1946. On January 1. 1993, Czechoslovakia split
into two countries: the Czech Republic and Slovakia. On Sale @ 15%
